What’s happening in Thunder Bay on Family Day

Here’s a look at some of the closures, and special events, happening in Thunder Bay on the Family Day weekend:

Thunder Bay Transit

All city buses will be operating on a holiday schedule for Family Day. The transit office will also be closed.

Lift+ buses will run from 8 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. on Sunday and Monday.

Landfill and waste collection

The city’s Solid Waste and Recycling Facility on Mapleward Road will be closed oni Sunday and Monday.

Recreational facilities and events

The City of Thunder Bay is hosting its annual SnowDay on the Waterfront on Monday. The free event runs from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Marina Park, and includes various activities, including:

  • Ice fishing with the MNR and Ontario Federation of Anglers and Hunters;
  • snowshoeing;
  • outdoor games;
  • the Science of Snowy Sport with Science North;
  • horse-drawn wagon rides;
  • an indoor warming station with crafts and games by the Thunder Bay Museum, and Boreal Museum,
  • and outdoor warming stations with a fire pit.

Ice fishing, in fact, will be free, with no fishing licence or Outdoors Card required, from Feb. 15-17. However, all fishing rules and regulations, including catch and size limits, will still apply.

The Canada Games Complex will be open from 12-5 p.m. on Monday.

Volunteer Pool will be open from 1-4 p.m. on Monday for a Family Swim, but all other swims and lessons scheduled for Monday are cancelled.

Churchill Pool will also be open from 1-4 p.m. Monday.

The Fort William Gardens is hosting the Scotties Tournament of Hearts from Feb. 14-23, with 12 games scheduled for Family Day.

Thunder Bay Public Library

All library branches will be closed Sunday and Monday.

District of Thunder Bay Social Services Administration Board

Board offices will be closed on Family Day.

Fort William Historical Park

The park will be hosting its annual Voyageur Winter Carnival from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Feb. 15 and 16.

Shopping

All Beer Store and LCBO branches in the city will be closed on Family Day.

Intercity Shopping Centre will also be closed on Family Day.
