The wildfire near Lake George in Kings County continues to rage uncontrollably, leading to additional evacuations.
A recent alert, issued at 10:14 a.m. AT, mandates evacuations for multiple areas including Aylesford Road from Fox Mountain Campground to 3847 Aylesford Rd., all residences on Spruce Drive, Birch Lane, Blue Lane, and all addresses between 5 North River Rd. to 1493 North River Rd.
Residents in the affected areas are urged to evacuate immediately and register at the Louis Millett Centre in New Minas.
Since igniting on Sunday, the wildfire has expanded to an estimated size of 150 hectares as of Tuesday. The Department of Natural Resources has already evacuated 275 addresses, including some cottages.
Jim Rudderham, the director of fleet and forest protection at the department, informed the press that the cause of the fire remains unknown, but human activity is suspected as there has been no lightning in the vicinity.
Expressing frustration, Rudderham stated, “It’s frustrating for us and for everybody when this happens.”

A combined team of 23 DNR firefighters and 20 local firefighters are actively combating the flames. Additionally, six planes, four from the Northwest Territories and two from Quebec, are conducting water drops. They are supported by two contracted helicopters and one from DNR, along with six pieces of heavy equipment constructing firebreaks on-site.
The wildfire is spreading from the northern edge of Lake George eastward towards the northern tip of Aylesford Lake.
This incident occurred just one day after the Long Lake wildfire in Annapolis County was declared under control, following its commencement on August 13 and the destruction of 20 homes.
