‘Work-related incident’ puts operations at Evraz facility in Regina on hold

A “work-related incident” at Wheat City Metals Recycling has halted operations at the Evraz facility in Regina and sent one of its employees to hospital, the company said Tuesday.

Evraz North America says the unspecified incident happened this morning at Wheat City Metals Recycling. An employee received emergency care on-site, according to the company.

Saskatchewan RCMP say they received reports of an injury at 8:20 a.m. CST. STARS has confirmed one of its helicopters was dispatched to an industrial area on the north side of Regina for a collision between a vehicle and a pedestrian.

“Our prayers are with our teammate and his family,” a spokesperson for Evraz wrote. “We would like to thank the members of Regina’s emergency services for their prompt response and action.”

There is no word on the employee’s condition or injuries.

Operations at the Evraz facility are on hold, and the company will “fully co-operate” with the Canadian Centre for Occupation Health and Safety as the incident is investigated, the company spokesperson said.

Saskatchewan’s Ministry of Labour Relations and Workplace Safety confirmed occupational health officers have been deployed to the site to assess the situation and that a stop work order was issued.

RCMP say that because the incident is now a workplace safety investigation, they are unable to provide any further details.
