In an unusual turn of events, a Second World War grenade caused the closure of a Value Village thrift store in Chatham, Ontario, on Thursday. The incident unfolded around 11 a.m. when police announced the closure of the area surrounding 80 Keil Drive South due to safety concerns. Later in the day, law enforcement responded to a report of a potential explosive device that was donated to the store.

Upon inspection, the police confirmed that the item in question was a historic grenade from the Second World War. As a precautionary measure, the store was evacuated, and the Canadian Armed Forces were called in to safely retrieve and dispose of the device following military protocols. Authorities assured the public that there is no ongoing threat.

This incident serves as a reminder for individuals engaged in pre-holiday decluttering to exercise caution when donating old items, especially memorabilia that may include weapons, ammunition, or explosive devices.
