Montreal authorities are currently looking into the tragic incident involving a 26-year-old woman who was struck by a train in the Mile End district of Montreal on Tuesday morning. According to police representative Florence Stafford, the incident occurred around 9 a.m. on the railway tracks situated below the Van Horne overpass, close to St-Dominique Street. Despite efforts from the fire department’s first responders to administer CPR, the woman was pronounced dead at the location. Initial assessments by the police suggest that the incident was accidental in nature. A safety perimeter has been established at the site. Although the reasons behind the woman’s presence on the tracks remain unclear, it is known that individuals often cross the railway in the vicinity despite the absence of a level crossing.

This is not the first fatality to occur in the region. In 2022, a 31-year-old woman lost her life after crossing the railway near the junction of Van Horne Avenue and Saint-Laurent Boulevard. She had utilized one of the numerous openings in the fence to avoid taking a longer route via the pass-through on Saint-Denis Street before the fatal collision occurred. Her tragic passing led to renewed calls for the implementation of a pedestrian crossing in the area.
