Neil Young has been writing frequent opinion pieces on his Neil Young Archives website, with his latest post offering one year of free access to his entire music catalog to the people of Greenland. The Canadian musician expressed his desire to alleviate some of the stress and threats facing Greenlanders due to their government’s actions. This gesture follows U.S. President Donald Trump’s initial interest in acquiring Greenland, which he later retracted during his address at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, focusing instead on potential agreements for the Arctic Region.

In his message, Young emphasized his wish for Greenlanders to enjoy his music in the highest quality within their beautiful homeland, describing the offer as a gesture of peace and love. The musician has been vocal about his disapproval of President Trump and his administration, criticizing ICE as the “new American thug police” and condemning what he perceives as the gradual destruction of America under Trump’s leadership.

Furthermore, Young reiterated his boycott of Amazon due to its ownership by Jeff Bezos, a supporter of the president, and his opposition to Trump’s policies. The singer had previously removed his music from Amazon’s streaming service and briefly boycotted Spotify over hosting Joe Rogan’s podcast. Young also released a new song called “Big Crime” in response to the Trump administration, featuring lyrics critical of the White House.

In past actions, Young filed a lawsuit against Trump for using his song “Rockin’ In the Free World” in his campaign, endorsed Bernie Sanders for president, and openly expressed his disdain for Trump’s presidency. These instances reflect Young’s ongoing activism and vocal opposition to the current political landscape.
