Jesse Compher scored her first two goals of the season, securing a late third-period goal to help Toronto Sceptres defeat New York 4-3 on Sunday. Compher’s goals countered Kristyna Kaltounkova’s two-goal performance for the Sirens, who was the top draft pick this year.
Compher opened the scoring at 9:19 in the first period, putting the Sceptres ahead 1-0 with assists from Allie Munroe and Maggie Connors. She later sealed the victory with a goal assisted by Claire Dalton, extending the lead to 4-2 with 1:37 remaining at Prudential Center in Newark, N.J.
The game intensified when Taylor Girard quickly scored 21 seconds later for the Sirens, making it 4-3. Girard’s goal marked her fourth of the season, with Maddi Wheeler securing her fourth assist.
Kaltounkova, the top pick in the 2025 draft from Colgate University and the Czech Republic, tied the game 1-1 in the first period with a goal assisted by Sarah Fillier and Anne Cherkowski. The Sceptres regained the lead early in the second period with Blayre Turnbull’s unassisted goal, making it 2-1.
Kaltounkova struck again, scoring her third goal of the season on a power play with assists from Casey O’Brien and Maja Nylen Persson, leveling the score at 2-2. Shortly after, Emma Maltais netted her first goal of the season, assisted by Daryl Watts, to give Toronto a 3-2 lead.
Elaine Chuli made 37 saves for Toronto, while Kayle Osborne stopped 23 shots for New York.
In their next games, Toronto will host Ottawa on Tuesday, while New York will face Seattle at the American Airlines Center in Dallas on Sunday as part of the Takeover Tour.
