Avril Lavigne has recently unveiled her rendition of Alanis Morissette’s iconic 1995 track “Ironic” for the soundtrack of Chandler Levack’s latest film, “Mile End Kicks.” The movie centers around Grace Channing, portrayed by Barbie Ferreira, a budding music journalist who relocates to Montreal to pen a book on Morissette’s influential 1995 album, “Jagged Little Pill.”
Lavigne’s interpretation of the song is featured on the official soundtrack of the film, which was released by Sumerian Records. Her version stays faithful to the original song’s dynamics, blending simple guitar melodies with a restrained delivery that builds up to the powerful chorus and vibrant guitar riffs.
This isn’t the first instance where Lavigne has expressed her admiration for this enduring classic. Back in 2005, she took the stage with Morissette, performing the song together during Morissette’s House of Blues concert in Los Angeles.
Set in 2011 amid Montreal’s indie rock scene, “Mile End Kicks” also showcases original music by local band Tops and a live performance by Islands. Meanwhile, Morissette is currently embarked on a global tour, making stops in Mexico and the U.S. before continuing on to the U.K, Ireland, and the Netherlands in June and July. She is also scheduled to headline the Calgary Stampede on July 11.
