After losing the Northern Super League final to Vancouver Rise, head coach Marko Milanovic mentioned that AFC Toronto took some time off to regroup. Milanovic humorously shared that they had a couple of days of relaxation and bonding, highlighting his team’s resilience despite the defeat.

The team is now gearing up for the North American edition of the World Sevens Football tournament in Florida. AFC Toronto, the top team in the NSL regular season, will compete against strong opponents including Club America, Tigres Femenil, Kansas City Current, and others for a chance to win the $5 million prize money. The tournament features shorter games, different rules like no offsides, and allows unlimited rolling substitutions.

Milanovic, recognized as the NSL coach of the year, described the tournament as resembling indoor soccer played outdoors. The adjustment to the no offsides rule presents a challenge, especially for the defenders accustomed to playing with that rule. However, it can be advantageous for forwards like Kaylee Hunter and Esther Okoronkwo.

The tournament will take place at Beyond Bancard Field at NSU in Davie, Florida, where AFC Toronto will face tough opponents in their group matches. Despite the disappointment of their recent loss, Milanovic believes the team has moved past it and is now focused on performing well in the upcoming tournament.

In the previous edition of the World Sevens Football, Bayern Munich women emerged victorious, beating Manchester United in the final. The tournament not only showcases top teams but also aims to distribute prize money among staff and players. Milanovic confirmed that he will be taking all available players from his roster to compete in the tournament.
