Miami Dolphins have relieved head coach Mike McDaniel of his duties after a disappointing 7-10 season, marking an end to his four-year tenure with the team. The decision to part ways with McDaniel came after the team missed the playoffs for the second consecutive year, prompting Dolphins owner Stephen Ross to announce the need for comprehensive change within the organization.
During McDaniel’s time as head coach, the Dolphins posted a record of 35-33, making the playoffs in his first two seasons but failing to advance past the first round each time. The team’s playoff aspirations for 2024 were dashed after a crucial loss to Pittsburgh in Week 15, extending their playoff win drought to 25 years.
Expressing disappointment over the team’s performance, McDaniel stated, “I had a vision of a team united in pursuit of championships, but we fell short of that goal. I gave my all, and it’s regrettable that we couldn’t deliver better results for the fans.”
The decision to dismiss McDaniel follows the departure of longtime general manager Chris Grier in October, as the Dolphins seek to revamp their leadership structure. The benching of quarterback Tua Tagovailoa towards the end of the season further solidified the need for change, ultimately leading to McDaniel’s dismissal.
