Arielle Corbeau first encountered Angine de Poitrine in their early days before their rise to global fame. The duo, consisting of Khn and Klek, was performing at the Centre d’expérimentation musicale in Chicoutimi, Quebec, where they and Corbeau hail from. This venue holds significance as it is where Angine de Poitrine recorded their debut album, “Vol. I,” and their subsequent award-winning album, “Vol. II.”
Reflecting on those early days, Corbeau recalled the duo’s eccentric stage antics, such as setting hot dogs on fire and tossing them into the audience. Fast forward to the present, Corbeau found herself catapulted into the limelight after designing the cover art for “Vol. II.” The exposure from this collaboration led to her artwork being showcased on late-night television by Jimmy Fallon, garnering millions of views on YouTube.
Corbeau, a visual artist, now receives messages of admiration from fans worldwide, recognizing the allure of Angine de Poitrine’s unique blend of music and performance art. She believes that in a world increasingly threatened by artificial intelligence, there is a growing need for genuine human expression and creativity.
Having grown up in the same region as Angine de Poitrine, Corbeau later moved to Montreal before returning to Chicoutimi during the pandemic. Her artistic journey intertwined with music journalism, where she combined reviews with her original artwork for various musicians. She eventually caught the attention of Angine de Poitrine, leading to a collaboration on the artwork for their second album.
Corbeau’s distinct style, characterized by surrealism and minimalistic color schemes, resonated with the band’s aesthetic. Inspired by artists like Jamie Hewlett and the band’s own visual identity, Corbeau’s artistry complemented Angine de Poitrine’s whimsical on-stage personas.
As Corbeau continues to work on new projects with the band, including a unique deck of cards, her own comic book, “Rookies,” is also in the works. Despite the ongoing discussions and theories surrounding Angine de Poitrine’s symbolism and imagery, Corbeau finds solace in the enigmatic nature of the duo’s artistry, embracing the weird and wonderful essence that captivates audiences worldwide.
