The goals came from Maddie McCullough at 2:06, Laurie Aubin at 4:46, and Rachel Piggott at 5:12, setting the tone for Canada’s commanding performance.
The win secured Canada a spot in the gold-medal game against the United States, who defeated Sweden 9-1 in the other semifinal match. Canadian head coach Vicky Sunohara expressed excitement about the upcoming Canada versus the United States final, emphasizing the importance of playing strategically and focusing on details to secure victory.
In the game, Adrianna Milani netted two goals in the third period, with Sofia Ismael, McCullough, and Piggott also finding the back of the net. Notably, Ismael contributed three assists, leading the team with 15 points from five games. Eleven players contributed points to the win, showcasing a strong team performance.
Despite Lucie Sindelarova scoring for the Czechs early in the third period, Canada’s goaltender Lea-Rose Charrois stood strong, making 20 saves to secure her third win of the tournament. Canada dominated the shots on goal, outshooting the Czech Republic 37-21.
After the game, Hayley McDonald, Rosalie Tremblay, and Piggott were recognized as Canada’s top three players of the tournament, highlighting their exceptional contributions throughout the competition.
