The Canada women’s national soccer team has slipped in the latest FIFA rankings, moving down to 10th place. This decline comes after the team started the year at 6th place and gradually dropped in the March, June, and August rankings. The downward trend continued in the recent end-of-year ranking update.

The team’s descent in the rankings can be attributed to a series of consecutive losses since the last rankings were published on August 7. Canada suffered defeats against Switzerland (ranked 25th), the Netherlands (ranked 11th), and Japan (ranked 8th) in the international windows of October and November, resulting in a five-game losing streak. The team also endured a scoring drought of 454 minutes, dating back to their victory over Haiti on June 27.

Under the leadership of coach Casey Stoney, the Canadian women’s team achieved a record of 6 wins, 6 losses, and 1 draw this year. Assistant coach Natalie Henderson acknowledged the areas needing improvement for the players, emphasizing the need to elevate performance standards both on and off the field.

Canada has maintained its presence in the FIFA top 10 since March 2016, with its highest rank being 4th in March 2018 and the lowest at 13th in various periods of the past. Spain retains the top spot in the rankings, followed by the United States and Germany, which climbed to 3rd place. Brazil moved up to 6th place, displacing France to 7th, while Japan remains at 8th. North Korea has surpassed Canada, now ranked 9th in the latest FIFA rankings.
