Canada’s short track speed skating team for the upcoming Milano Cortina Olympic Games was revealed on Wednesday, showcasing a lineup of ten talented athletes. Spearheaded by William Dandjinou and Courtney Sarault, who clinched the men’s and women’s Crystal Globe titles on this year’s World Tour, the Canadian team is anticipated to be a strong contender for medals across all events at the Games.

Sarault, who secured nine individual medals during the World Tour season, expressed confidence and momentum leading into the Winter Games. She emphasized the honor of qualifying for her second Olympics and the privilege of representing Canada, expressing eagerness to compete and demonstrate her skills on the global stage.

Joining Sarault in her second Olympic appearance are Danaé Blais and Florence Brunelle, while veteran four-time Olympic medalist Kim Boutin will attend her third Winter Games. Rikki Doak is set to make her Olympic debut in Milano Cortina.

Unlike the spectator restrictions at the Beijing 2022 Olympics, Milano Cortina will welcome back spectators to the venues. Sarault, reflecting on her growth since Beijing, expressed readiness and excitement for the Games, especially anticipating the support of her friends and family in Milan.

On the men’s side, the roster is led by rising star Dandjinou, making his Olympic debut after a remarkable performance on the World Tour. Steven Dubois, a three-time Olympic medalist, will bring his experience to the team, having achieved success at Beijing 2022 despite recovering from a hip injury.

The Canadian short track speed skating team has a rich history of success at the Winter Games, accumulating 37 Olympic medals since the sport’s inclusion in the Olympic program in 1992. Speed Skating Canada’s CEO, Joe Morissette, commended the athletes’ dedication and teamwork, expressing anticipation for their performances in Italy.

The team’s selection for Milano Cortina 2026 reflects Canada’s strong position in short track speed skating, with a legacy of excellence that Morissette believes will continue to inspire Canadians. The athletes are set to showcase their talent and pursue further success at the upcoming Winter Olympics.
