Canadian Para skiers Kurt Oatway and Mollie Jepsen secured gold medals during a recent World Cup event in Saalbach, Austria. Oatway triumphed in the men’s sitting super-G race, clocking a winning time of 1:06.25. The Netherlands’ Niels de Langen claimed silver, while Italy’s Renè De Silvestro took the bronze.
Reflecting on his victory, Oatway mentioned the intense competition and his satisfaction with the result, especially after overcoming injuries. Jepsen, from West Vancouver, B.C., dominated the women’s standing super-G race with a time of 1:08.35, marking her eighth podium finish out of 11 races this season.
In the men’s standing super-G race, Canadian Alexis Guimond clinched a bronze medal, following his earlier success in the super-G event. Guimond expressed contentment with his performance despite some errors during the race, emphasizing his overall satisfaction with his skiing level and achieving a podium finish.
The competition also saw Russia’s Varvara Voronchikhina and France’s Aurelie Richard securing silver and bronze, respectively, in the women’s event. Michaela Gosselin from Collingwood, Ont., wrapped up the event finishing fifth in 1:14.06.
