The Canadian Queer Chamber of Commerce has introduced the FAM Program to assist and foster community among 2SLGBTQ+ entrepreneurs and business owners. This initiative offers training, networking events, and various opportunities. Over 200 members from different regions in Canada, such as Vancouver Island, Saint John, and Halifax, have enrolled in the program.
One of the participants, Sam Archibald, who is the co-founder and creative director of Shortstop, a small marketing firm in Halifax, sees the program as a valuable opportunity to connect with entrepreneurs nationwide. Archibald highlighted the lack of a comprehensive resource for guidance in entrepreneurship and business management.
The COO of the Canadian Queer Chamber of Commerce, Sarah Evalina, acknowledged the challenges faced by entrepreneurs, especially within the 2SLGBTQ+ community, in securing investments and finding suitable mentors. Despite 2SLGBTQ+ entrepreneurs contributing significantly to Canada’s economy, they receive only a small fraction of venture capital funding.
The FAM Program was established in response to community feedback, aiming to provide inclusive support and opportunities. While the program is currently free until the end of March, an annual membership fee will apply thereafter, with reduced rates for early sign-ups during the complimentary period.
