The trial for K’naan, a prominent Canadian rapper, accused of sexually assaulting a woman in Quebec City in 2010, commenced on Tuesday. The alleged victim, an artist herself, testified that she met K’naan in person after connecting online, describing him as initially charming. She recounted an incident in a hotel room where K’naan tried to engage in intercourse without a condom, leading to a non-consensual encounter. Despite initially denying the assault, she later acknowledged the incident with the help of a therapist. The alleged victim maintained contact with K’naan post-assault, but their interactions were strained. The trial, expected to last several days, will continue with cross-examination by K’naan’s legal counsel.
