CBC Music’s “30 under 30” List Spotlights Rising Canadian Classical Stars

CBC Music celebrates Canada’s emerging classical talents with the annual “30 under 30” list, recognizing their achievements and contributions to the classical music scene. This year’s cohort showcases a diverse group of musicians excelling in various aspects of classical music.

Martina Myskohlid, a mezzo-soprano aged 29 from Toronto, has made significant strides in her career. She spent the past year at Teatro Regio di Torino in Italy, debuting multiple roles and embracing the accordion. Martina will perform in Pesaro before joining the Bavarian State Opera ensemble in Munich. Canadian fans can catch her in upcoming productions by the Canadian Opera Company and the Montreal Symphony Orchestra.

Maria Gajraj, a 28-year-old organist from Montreal with roots in Ottawa, won top prizes in the Canadian National Organ Competition. She has a passion for diverse music genres, from Afro-Caribbean compositions to contemporary works. Maria will soon assume the role of music director at St. Philip’s Anglican Church in Vancouver.

Emma Ahern, a 28-year-old oboist from Quebec City, has a deep connection to The Hague in the Netherlands. She recently released a new album with guitarist Anne-Frédérique Gagnon and continues to impress audiences with her performances. Emma enjoys diverse musical collaborations and is looking forward to future projects.

Cameron Breiter, a 27-year-old double bassist from Kinistino, Sask., received accolades from the National Youth Orchestra of Canada. He is pursuing further studies and actively participates in music sessions. Cameron draws inspiration from his experiences and interests in literature.

Elie Boissinot, a 27-year-old cellist from Montreal via Tours, France, recently completed a successful season with the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra. He is preparing for upcoming solo performances and remains dedicated to his craft. Elie finds balance in music and various hobbies outside his musical pursuits.

Aemilia Moser, a 27-year-old soprano from Edmonton, has garnered attention for her performances and competition wins. She is set to embark on a concert tour across Canada, showcasing works by Canadian composers. Aemilia’s passion for music and fashion influences her artistic expression.

Emily Rocha, a 26-year-old soprano from Courtice, Ont., is a member of the COC’s Ensemble Studio. She aspires to move audiences through her opera performances and has upcoming roles with prestigious opera companies. Emily values her experiences and connections within the opera community.

Luke Blackmore, a 26-year-old composer from St. John’s, has earned recognition for his innovative compositions. His unique approach combines acoustic instruments with electronic elements, captivating audiences. Luke is set to present his works at international festivals, showcasing his creativity and talent.

Karl-Frédéric Bolte, a 26-year-old organist and harpsichordist from Saint-Bruno-de-Montarville, Que., has distinguished himself through his musical performances. He is known for his expertise in Baroque music and his dedication to mastering various keyboard instruments. Karl-Frédéric’s commitment to music is evident in his ongoing projects and performances.

Zoe McCormick, a 25-year-old soprano from Ponoka, Alta., has received prestigious awards and opportunities in the opera world. Her talent and dedication have led to significant achievements at a young age. Zoe’s future looks promising as she continues to pursue her passion for opera and vocal performance.
