Danielle Serdachny is proudly representing Canada in her hometown during a crucial hockey event that could impact her Olympic aspirations. The 24-year-old Edmonton native, along with her Canadian teammates, is gearing up for the final two games of the four-game Rivalry Series against the United States at Rogers Place. The U.S. took an early lead in the series with wins in Cleveland and Buffalo, outscoring Canada 10-2.

Serdachny, a seasoned player who has competed in the last three world championships and scored the decisive goal in 2024, is currently in her second season in the Professional Women’s Hockey League with the Seattle Torrent. The upcoming matches against the U.S., especially in her hometown where she grew up, hold significant importance for Serdachny.

Reflecting on her roots, Serdachny was inspired by Canada’s Jennifer Wakefield scoring the overtime winner at Rogers Place in 2017. Her father’s role as the NHL team’s skills coach for the Edmonton Oilers also shaped her passion for hockey. Serdachny, now an ambassador for the Oilers’ community foundation, is excited to don the Canadian jersey in front of her hometown crowd.

As part of Canada’s core pool of Olympic candidates, Serdachny is among the players vying for a spot on the 23-player roster for the upcoming Winter Games in Milan and Cortina, Italy. With the final Olympic roster set to be announced in January, Serdachny sees these games as a crucial opportunity to showcase her skills and represent her country.

Having been a key player for Ottawa in the PWHL, Serdachny’s performance both on the national team and at the league level will be considered in the selection process. Despite facing challenges in her pro debut with the expansion Torrent, Serdachny is focused on continuous improvement and contributing to her team’s success in any way possible.

Canada’s general manager, Gina Kingsbury, highlighted Serdachny’s offensive prowess and adaptability, emphasizing the need for versatility in Olympic team selection. Serdachny aims to make a strong impression during the Rivalry Series and hopes for a successful outcome against the U.S. in Edmonton to bolster her chances of making the Olympic squad.

While the Torrent won’t be playing at Rogers Place this season, Serdachny remains determined to elevate her Olympic prospects and help Canada secure victory over their rivals. The upcoming games hold significance not only for Serdachny’s personal aspirations but also for the team’s morale and confidence moving forward.
