European Parliament member Karin Karlsbro emphasizes the importance of taking action rather than just talking when it comes to dealing with U.S. President Donald Trump. European leaders are currently at odds with Trump over his threats to take control of Greenland by force, a move opposed by the Greenlandic people and Denmark, a NATO ally. In response to Trump’s announcement of tariffs on EU countries for opposing his Greenland takeover, the EU is considering retaliatory measures, including the use of its Anti-Coercion Instrument, known as the “trade bazooka.” Karlsbro advocates for employing this tool to deter coercion from the U.S. and protect EU interests. While there may be some dissent within the EU, Karlsbro believes that the union will stand united in its response. She stresses the need to show the U.S. that the EU is prepared to act decisively to defend its interests and maintain the global order.
