A former leader of Minneapolis states that the community is uniting against what he perceives as an assault from the U.S. government.
Former Mayor R. T. Rybak, who served from 2002 to 2014, remarked, “The federal government has initiated a conflict with the city of Minneapolis, and they have done so in a very harsh manner.”
“They have caused the deaths of two individuals … and the aggressive tactics are haphazard and unlawful,” he informed Matt Galloway of The Current.
Last Saturday, U.S. federal agents fatally shot 37-year-old ICU nurse Alex Jeffrey Pretti in Minneapolis. This incident occurred less than three weeks after Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agent Jonathan Ross killed Renee Good in her vehicle in a residential area within the city.
Verified eyewitness videos indicate several officers restraining a man before multiple shots are discharged. The individual is believed to be Alex Pretti, a U.S. citizen whose death has exacerbated tensions between the Trump administration and Minnesota authorities.
Rybak discussed with Galloway how the Minneapolis populace is reacting to the government’s immigration crackdown and his expectations from the nation as a whole. Here are excerpts from their dialogue.
How would you characterize the recent weeks in Minneapolis?
I’d prefer not to be overly dramatic, but truthfully, it feels akin to residing in an occupied city. There are exceptions to that … the unity amongst Minnesotans, particularly those in Minneapolis, is remarkable. Amidst extensive volunteerism, daily life persists. Most of us go about our routine of working and other activities.
However, what stands out is entering a coffee shop to find neighbors delivering
