Hyundai Canada has announced a safety recall for select 2024–2026 Elantra Hybrid vehicles over potential fire hazards. The recall impacts 6,082 cars in Canada, as confirmed by Hyundai. Despite no reported incidents in Canada, Hyundai spokesperson Nitish Bissonauth stated that there have been no fires, injuries, or fatalities associated with the issue.

In the United States, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) reported a recall of 54,337 vehicles due to the same issue. The problem stems from a potential malfunction in the hybrid power control unit, which could result in overheating, leading to a “no start” condition or reduced power mode in most cases, with an increased fire risk.

Hyundai plans to reach out to affected drivers and provide a complimentary software update to rectify the overheating issue.
