The New York Mets recently made a significant move by adding ace pitcher Freddy Peralta and right-hander Tobias Myers to their roster in a trade with the Milwaukee Brewers. In exchange, the Brewers received pitcher Brandon Sproat and minor league player Jett Williams, both highly regarded prospects.
Peralta’s addition bolsters the Mets’ starting rotation following a challenging 2025 season. The trade occurred shortly after the Mets welcomed former Blue Jays shortstop Bo Bichette and acquired centre-fielder Luis Robert Jr. from the Chicago White Sox.
Mets president of baseball operations, David Stearns, expressed excitement about adding Peralta to the team, highlighting his valuable experience as a top-tier starter. Peralta, a two-time All-Star, had an impressive season in 2025, posting a 17-6 record with a 2.70 ERA.
Myers, a young talent, showed promise with a 9-6 record and a 3.00 ERA in his rookie season in 2024. The Brewers, known for their prudent approach, have traded star pitchers in recent off-seasons to manage costs effectively.
Despite losing Peralta, the Brewers still have standout pitcher Brandon Woodruff, who accepted a qualifying offer. The team remains optimistic about their rotation, with promising young players like Sproat and Williams competing for roster spots.
Peralta’s career with the Brewers was notable, with a 70-42 record and 1,153 strikeouts over eight seasons. He joins a Mets rotation featuring other talented pitchers like Nolan McLean, Clay Holmes, and David Peterson. Peralta’s consistent performance and high strikeout numbers make him a valuable addition to the Mets’ pitching staff.
