Star moguls skier Mikaël Kingsbury is set to compete in the upcoming Milano-Cortina Winter Games with the Canadian freestyle skiing team, aiming to secure two medals. The announcement of the 25-athlete team was made jointly by Freestyle Canada and the Canadian Olympic Committee earlier this week.
Hailing from Deux-Montagnes, Quebec, Kingsbury, a gold medalist in men’s moguls at the 2018 Pyeongchang Games and a silver medalist at the 2014 Sochi Olympics and the 2022 Beijing Games, will have the opportunity to compete in dual moguls for the first time in the Olympics, increasing his chances to stand on the podium in Italy.
As the all-time leader in World Cup victories, Kingsbury’s exceptional performance during the past season included achieving his 100th career win on his home turf in Val Saint-Come, Quebec.
Among the returning Olympic medalists joining Kingsbury are Cassie Sharpe (gold, silver), Rachael Karker (bronze) in halfpipe, and Lewis Irving, Marion Thenault, and Miha Fontaine (bronze) in mixed team aerials.
Expressing his excitement, Kingsbury stated in a release, “It’s an honor for me to represent Canada at the Olympic Games for the fourth time in my career. I always felt it was a privilege to wear my country’s colors, and this year will be even more memorable for me.”
He added, “For the first time in Olympic Games history, we will have two events. Of course, my desire is to step on the podium at the end of both events. It would be a great way to celebrate what will probably be my last Games.”
The freestyle skiing events are scheduled throughout the Games, commencing on February 7, which is Day 1 of the competition.
The Canadian freestyle skiing team includes athletes across various disciplines such as moguls, dual moguls, aerials, slopestyle, big air, and halfpipe, representing a diverse and talented group of competitors from different regions of Canada.
