The upcoming women’s slalom event at the Milan Cortina Winter Olympics is set to feature an exciting rivalry between Mikaela Shiffrin and her Swiss counterpart, Camille Rast. Rast recently halted Shiffrin’s winning streak by edging out the American star with a narrow 0.14-second lead in a World Cup slalom race in Slovenia. Despite Rast’s strong performance in the first run, Shiffrin managed to make up time on a challenging course to secure the victory.

Following the race, Shiffrin praised Rast’s skiing abilities, noting the intensity of the competition. Rast, on the other hand, expressed her joy at securing her fourth career win and third in slalom. The victory marked Rast’s second triumph in a weekend, having also won the giant slalom event on the same hill.

Rast dedicated her giant slalom win to the victims of a recent fire near her hometown, Vetroz. The Swiss skier emphasized the importance of energy and preparation in achieving her success, highlighting the enjoyable experience on the well-prepared slope.

In the race, Rast and Shiffrin dominated the field, with Wendy Holdener finishing a distant third. Shiffrin’s teammate, Paula Moltzan, claimed fourth place, with no other racer coming within two seconds of the leaders. Shiffrin’s impressive record includes 69 slalom wins and 106 overall victories, making her a standout in the sport.

Looking ahead, the next slalom race is scheduled as a night event on January 13 in Flachau, setting the stage for further competition before the Olympics. Additionally, upcoming downhill and super-G races are planned in Zauchensee, Austria. Meanwhile, the men’s World Cup races were not held during the same weekend.
