Anna Bargman notched her debut PWHL goal, while Kristyna Kaltounkova netted the decisive goal as the New York Sirens clinched a thrilling 4-3 victory over the Montreal Victoire in Newark, N.J. Bargman found the back of the net in the waning moments of the first period, leveling the score after Laura Stacey opened the scoring for Montreal just 3:47 into the game. This marked Bargman’s first PWHL goal, having previously secured her first PWHL point in the Sirens’ previous matchup against the Goldeneyes. The rookie, a fifth-round pick for New York from Yale, where she ranks fourth in career goals, has been making a significant impact.
Kristin O’Neill added her second goal of the season in the second period for New York (5-0-0-5), only to be answered by Victoire’s captain, Marie-Philip Poulin, with a power play goal. Kaltounkova continued her impressive form by scoring in her fourth consecutive game, propelling the Sirens to a 3-2 lead.
Paetyn Levis extended New York’s advantage midway through the third period after a setup from Sarah Fillier. Montreal (3-0-1-4) pulled their goaltender, Sandra Abstreiter, for an extra skater in the final minutes. Natalie Mlynkova managed to deflect Abby Roque’s shot into the net with 24 seconds remaining, but Montreal couldn’t find the equalizer before time expired.
Sirens’ goaltender Kayle Osborne delivered a stellar performance, making a career-high 42 saves, while Abstreiter stopped 17 shots for Montreal.
In the next fixtures, the Victoire will host Minnesota on Sunday, while the Sirens are set to visit Toronto on Jan. 6.
