This weekend offers an exciting lineup for football fans in Saskatchewan. The Saskatoon Hilltops are aiming for a national championship, while the University of Saskatchewan Huskies are set to host the University of Regina Rams in the Hardy Cup. Additionally, the Saskatchewan Roughriders will face the B.C. Lions in the CFL Western Division final with a Grey Cup berth at stake.

The Huskies (7-1) and Rams (6-2) will kick off the weekend on Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m. in Saskatoon at Griffiths Stadium. This matchup is a repeat of last year’s Hardy Cup, which the Rams won. Both teams are acknowledged by Husky coach Scott Flory as deserving contenders, highlighting the physical and disciplined nature of the game.

Rams head coach Mark McConkey anticipates a closely contested game that could potentially be decided in the final moments. Key players on both teams might be absent, with Huskie quarterback Anton Amunrud and Rams star running back Marshall Erichsen facing uncertainties due to injuries.

The winner of the Huskies vs. Rams game will go on to host the Ontario champion in the Mitchell Bowl, with the ultimate goal being a spot in the Vanier Cup, hosted by Regina.

On the other hand, the Saskatchewan Roughriders will take on the B.C. Lions on Saturday at 5 p.m. at Mosaic Stadium. Despite securing first place weeks ago, the Roughriders will need to overcome any rustiness to compete effectively. The team is bolstered by the return of key players, including last year’s defensive player of the year, Roland Milligan Jr.

In the Canadian Junior Football League national championship on Sunday, the Saskatoon Hilltops will play against the Okanagan Sun. The Hilltops, with a record 23 national titles, are known for their dominance in junior football. Head coach Tom Sargeant emphasized the team’s resilience and determination, promising a strong performance in the final match.

The action-packed weekend culminates with the Hilltops vs. Sun game at 1 p.m. on Sunday at SMF Field. Football enthusiasts are in for a treat with a series of thrilling matches showcasing top talent and fierce competition.
