The masterminds behind two of the most popular entertainment sensations from last year, “Heated Rivalry” and “KPop Demon Hunters,” are among the esteemed entertainment professionals scheduled to make appearances at Toronto’s Departure Festival and Conference this upcoming spring.
Among the notable figures set to be honored at the event are showrunner Jacob Tierney of “Heated Rivalry” and creator Maggie Kang of “KPop Demon Hunters,” alongside singer-songwriter Sarah McLachlan and pop poet Rupi Kaur.
Tierney is slated to receive the Creative Impact Award, while Kang is being recognized with the Cultural Innovator Award. McLachlan will be presented with the Allan Slaight Humanitarian Award, and Kaur will be honored with the Independent Achievement Award.
The event will also feature appearances by comedian Russell Peters and Warped Tour founder Kevin Lyman. Additionally, various Canadian artists are scheduled to perform during the festival, including folk band Wild Rivers at Massey Hall, rapper Tommy Genesis at the Great Hall, and R&B singer Katie Tupper, country singer Sacha, R&B singer Chxrry, and rapper Jev at the Mod Club.
Formerly known as Canadian Music Week, the festival is set to take place from May 4 to 10.
