A U.S. navy fighter jet intercepted an Iranian drone nearing the USS Abraham Lincoln aircraft carrier in the Arabian Sea, according to the U.S. Central Command on Tuesday. This incident occurred amidst escalating tensions as the Trump administration hints at potential military actions to engage Iran in negotiations.
The drone exhibited aggressive behavior as it approached the aircraft carrier, continuing its trajectory despite attempts by U.S. forces to de-escalate the situation in international waters, stated Central Command spokesperson Capt. Tim Hawkins.
This confrontation followed Iranian forces harassing a U.S.-flagged and crewed merchant vessel in the Strait of Hormuz, reported the American military.

Iranian state media disclosed that Iran’s Revolutionary Guard is investigating the drone’s disruption. The drone reportedly managed to transmit captured images back to Iran before the interception.
Following the incident, discussions between special envoy Steve Witkoff and Iranian officials remain scheduled, as confirmed by White House and Iranian representatives.
