“Video Game Industry Mourns Loss of ‘Call of Duty’ Developer”

Vince Zampella, a prominent figure involved in popular video games like “Call of Duty,” has passed away at the age of 55. Electronic Arts, the video game company, confirmed Zampella’s death on Sunday. Although the cause of death was not disclosed by the company, reports from various media sources indicated that Zampella was involved in a fatal car crash.

In 2010, Zampella established Respawn Entertainment, a subsidiary of Electronic Arts, and previously served as the CEO of Infinity Ward, the developer behind the successful “Call of Duty” series. A spokesperson from Electronic Arts expressed that Zampella had a significant and widespread impact on the video game industry.

Zampella’s legacy includes the creation of the highly successful “Call of Duty” franchise, which has garnered over 500 million game sales globally since its launch in 2003. Beyond his work with “Call of Duty,” Zampella played a key role in developing action-adventure games like “Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order” and “Star Wars Jedi: Survivor” in recent years.

Geoff Keighley, a renowned video game journalist and co-creator of the Game Awards, shared his shock at Zampella’s sudden passing. Keighley praised Zampella as a remarkable individual with a keen eye for talent and a unique ability to foster creativity in others. Keighley expressed regret that Zampella’s untimely death means the loss of what could have been his greatest game creation.

The gaming community mourns the loss of Vince Zampella, recognizing his lasting influence on the industry and the countless players and developers he inspired worldwide.
