The MP, a friend of U.S. Vice President JD Vance from their university days, expressed his willingness to collaborate with the governing Liberals before embarking on his journey, although he claimed to have received a cold response. Prime Minister Mark Carney noted that while Jivani received a briefing from Canada-U.S. Trade Minister Dominic LeBlanc, the Liberal government maintains regular communication with the U.S. administration independently. Jivani mentioned his efforts to arrange a meeting with LeBlanc to debrief him on his discussions in Washington.
Jivani mentioned plans to meet with representatives from General Motors and other industry leaders during his visit. He is scheduled to attend the National Prayer Breakfast, a significant annual event in Washington, where he aims to leverage his friendship with Vance for Canada’s benefit.
