Grammy-winning Toronto producer Boi-1da was initially approached by Canada Soccer to create a few songs for the 2026 FIFA World Cup soundtrack. However, he envisioned a larger project to showcase the abundance of talent in Canada.
Boi-1da aimed to demonstrate Canada’s musical prowess by competing with other nations releasing World Cup anthems. He emphasized the country’s diverse culture and top-tier artists, leading to the creation of the all-Canadian album “What If It All Goes Right?” featuring a mix of established and emerging talents like Nelly Furtado, the Tragically Hip, Alessia Cara, and Jessie Reyez.
Scheduled for release on June 5, the album not only aims to energize Team Canada for their upcoming World Cup match but also serves as a statement on Canada’s cultural diversity and global significance.
Through tracks like “Born Winner,” which blends Afrobeats, French vocals, R&B, and Punjabi verses, the album exemplifies cross-cultural collaboration. Boi-1da challenges the notion that Toronto lacks a distinct sound, emphasizing the city’s multicultural music scene.
The album pays homage to Canadian music icons, including Nelly Furtado and the Tragically Hip, with reimagined tracks and nods to classic Canadian hits. Boi-1da’s collaboration with these artists reflects a fusion of nostalgia and contemporary sound.
Presented through Canada Soccer’s Perfect Pitch program, the album’s proceeds will support youth soccer programs. Boi-1da, a devoted soccer parent, sees this project as part of Canada’s growing national success across music, sports, and entertainment.
With high expectations for Team Canada at the World Cup and a flourishing cultural scene, Boi-1da exudes confidence in Canada’s rising prominence on the global stage.
