Nationwide protests against Iran’s theocracy entered their two-week mark on Sunday, as activists reported that the death toll from the demonstrations had risen to at least 116 individuals. With internet services and phone communications disrupted in Iran, monitoring the protests from outside the country has become increasingly challenging. According to the U.S.-based Human Rights Activists News Agency, over 2,600 people have been detained in connection with the protests.

Iranian state TV has been highlighting casualties among security forces while emphasizing control over the nation, often labeling deceased protesters as “terrorists.” Despite warnings from the U.S., Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has hinted at a forthcoming crackdown. Iranian authorities have escalated their threats, with Iran’s attorney general, Mohammad Movahedi Azad, issuing a death penalty warning for anyone participating in the protests.

President Donald Trump expressed support for the demonstrators, stating on social media that Iran is on the verge of experiencing freedom like never before, with the U.S. prepared to assist. In response, Iran’s parliament speaker cautioned that the U.S. military and Israel could become targets if America takes action against the Islamic Republic.

Various countries, including Canada, Australia, and the European Union, have condemned the violence in Iran and praised the courage of the Iranian people in standing up for their rights to peaceful protest. Conflicting reports emerged regarding the situation on the ground, with state TV broadcasting pro-government demonstrations while independent sources verified ongoing protests in several cities.

The Iranian government’s decision to cut off internet access and international calls has raised concerns about a potential violent crackdown. Exiled Crown Prince Reza Pahlavi encouraged protesters to continue demonstrating and reclaim public spaces using national symbols. The protests, which began due to economic grievances, have evolved into a broader challenge against Iran’s ruling regime, leading to international airlines canceling flights to the country.

As the unrest continues, fears of a severe government response persist. Ali Rahmani, son of imprisoned Nobel laureate Narges Mohammadi, highlighted the risks faced by protesters in confronting a repressive regime.
