Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre is preparing for his inaugural international visit as the leader of the opposition next week, with scheduled meetings with parliamentary counterparts and business figures in London and Germany. This trip follows his recent articulation of his vision for Canada’s relationship with the United States during a speech in Toronto.
A press release detailing Poilievre’s travel plans states that the primary objective of the trip is to enhance and fortify business and diplomatic connections. His itinerary indicates meetings with British Members of Parliament and business representatives in London on Monday and Tuesday. Additionally, Poilievre is slated to participate in a CANZUK reception on Monday evening. CANZUK International advocates for enhanced ties on trade, migration, and foreign policy among Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and the United Kingdom.
The London leg of his trip will culminate with Poilievre delivering the Margaret Thatcher Lecture at the Centre for Policy Studies on Tuesday. In Berlin on Wednesday, Poilievre is set to address the transatlantic partnership at the Konrad Adenauer Foundation, affiliated with the governing Christian Democratic Union. He will also tour the Hamburg port and a liquefied natural gas facility at the Jade-Wesser port on the North Sea coast.
Poilievre is expected to return to Canada the following Sunday, with the Conservative party covering all expenses for the trip. While details of the individuals Poilievre will meet with during the trip remain undisclosed, his recent speech at the Economic Club of Canada in Toronto emphasized the necessity of a robust relationship with the United States and touched on trade and policy matters concerning other nations such as India and China.
