A large Canadian vessel, the Rt. Hon. Paul J. Martin, is currently stranded in the Detroit River, positioned between downtown Detroit and downtown Windsor. The ship, measuring 225 meters and bound for Quebec City, encountered difficulties in the river.
The U.S. Coast Guard confirmed that they are closely monitoring the situation, describing the ship’s condition as a “soft grounding.” Fortunately, no injuries, pollution, or disruptions to marine traffic have been reported. Two tug boats are on the scene, but due to limited visibility during the night, the Coast Guard has decided to postpone any re-floating attempts until Saturday morning for safety reasons.
