In Grand Falls-Windsor, the RCMP has identified two recent shootings as cases of intimate partner violence. Superintendent Paul Peddle stated that the major crimes unit is actively investigating both incidents, emphasizing the limited details shared due to the ongoing nature of the investigations.

Peddle addressed the public’s concerns, acknowledging the community’s apprehension following these violent events. He clarified that the shootings were isolated occurrences, assuring that there is no widespread risk to public safety. Notably, Peddle confirmed that the victims in both incidents were women.

While avoiding specifics on past responses to domestic disturbances in the areas involved, Peddle urged individuals to report any concerns regarding intimate partner violence to the police. He emphasized the availability of support services for those in need, including assistance during mental health crises.

The RCMP considers intimate partner violence a grave offense, with officers routinely handling such cases. Peddle stressed that law enforcement is just one facet of the solution, highlighting the importance of community backing and services in aiding victims.

In a separate development, a shooting last Wednesday resulted in a woman sustaining serious injuries and being hospitalized in stable condition. The suspect’s vehicle was later discovered in the vicinity, alongside a deceased individual. However, Peddle clarified that the death was deemed non-criminal, with a firearm found nearby.

Tragically, another woman was fatally shot in a separate incident, leading to the arrest of Ivan Loder for the murder of Amanda Gilbert. Loder is scheduled for a court appearance soon.

The incidents have sparked community outcry for increased resources to combat violence against women and bolster policing efforts in the region. Peddle affirmed that Grand Falls-Windsor’s staffing levels are sufficient and normal.

For immediate assistance or emergencies, individuals are urged to call 911. Additional support can be found through resources available at endingviolencecanada.org.
