Growing up in a musically inclined family, O’Hara, whose sister is the esteemed singer-songwriter Mary Margaret O’Hara, had a deep connection to music. Even though acting became her primary focus, music often played a significant role in her roles.

One of O’Hara’s notable musical moments was her portrayal of Lola Heatherton on “SCTV” between 1976 and 1983. Lola Heatherton, known for her distinctive white bob and dramatic persona, was a recurring character who captivated audiences with her over-the-top performances. O’Hara drew inspiration for the character from various sources, delivering memorable and entertaining acts.

In addition to her television roles, O’Hara also lent her voice to animated characters, including Sally in the iconic 1993 film “The Nightmare Before Christmas.” Her rendition of “Sally’s Song” showcased her vocal talent and emotional depth, earning her praise for her performance.

Another noteworthy musical moment in O’Hara’s career was in the mockumentary film “Waiting for Guffman” (1996), where she and Fred Willard portrayed aspiring performers with a lack of singing talent but overflowing confidence. Their rendition of “Midnight at the Oasis” in the film remains a standout moment for its comedic awkwardness.

O’Hara’s collaboration with Eugene Levy in the comedy “A Mighty Wind” (2003) further highlighted her musical abilities. The duo’s performances, including the romantic track “A Kiss at the End of the Rainbow,” received critical acclaim, with O’Hara’s vocals adding a genuine warmth to the songs.
