Signed and framed Sidney Crosby and Nathan MacKinnon jerseys were stolen from a Halifax bar on Tuesday night, prompting the owner to contemplate offering a reward for their return. Big Leagues Brew Pub released surveillance footage of the theft on its Facebook page.

Expressing his dismay, Jamie Latter, the bar’s proprietor, expressed his frustration in an interview with CBC News on Wednesday, stating, “I want somebody punished for it. You know, I couldn’t sleep at all last night. I watched the video about 10 times and it was just extremely upsetting — just coming in, my property and just ripping it right off the wall with no respect whatsoever.”

The theft occurred shortly before the Canadian men’s hockey team, including MacKinnon and Crosby, emerged victorious against Czechia in the Olympic quarterfinals on Wednesday. Recounting the incident, Latter described how the thieves, one masked individual, swiftly seized the jerseys minutes before closing time and fled the scene without leaving any identifying details.

The stolen jerseys, acquired by Latter at an auction in Cole Harbour, hold an estimated value of $3,000 to $4,000. Bolted to the bar’s wall with specialized security brackets, Latter suspects the culprits may have been familiar with the premises, as they appeared to have tampered with the fixtures beforehand.

Despite the bustling activity at Big Leagues during the Olympics, Latter doubts the jerseys will be recovered before the hockey semifinals on Friday. However, he remains hopeful that they will eventually be replaced. Reflecting on a previous incident at another Big Leagues location, Latter mentioned offering a reward led to identifying a suspect within 24 hours, although the stolen property was not returned.

Halifax Regional Police confirmed that an investigation is underway following the theft at Big Leagues bar, emphasizing that no patrons were present during the crime, and no threats or physical harm were reported.
