The U.S. Olympic hockey team did not include Jason Robertson and Adam Fox, while Canada’s roster did not feature Sam Bennett and Mark Scheifele. However, these players may still have a chance to join the teams as both USA Hockey and Hockey Canada have standby players ready in case of injuries.

“We have identified several players who could step in if needed,” stated U.S. general manager Bill Guerin, emphasizing the existence of a contingency plan.

Similarly, Canada’s GM Doug Armstrong mentioned that they have a list of players on standby, without disclosing the exact number, ensuring that all potential replacements remain under consideration and continue Olympic drug-testing.

Among the notable absences were back-to-back Stanley Cup winner Sam Bennett and point-a-game player Mark Scheifele from Canada’s roster. The final selections included newcomers Macklin Celebrini, Nick Suzuki, and Tom Wilson, while standout rookie Matthew Schaefer made a strong case for his inclusion with his remarkable performance for the New York Islanders.

Canada’s goaltending situation remains uncertain, with Jordan Binnington likely to start, supported by Logan Thompson and Darcy Kuemper. The impressive form of Mackenzie Blackwood and Scott Wedgewood could make them viable replacements.

In the U.S. team, top scorer Jason Robertson, along with forwards Alex DeBrincat and Cole Caufield, were standouts. While Adam Fox was not selected, the team has a mix of left and right-handed defensemen, leaving room for potential additions based on performance and need.

Overall, both teams have kept their options open for potential replacements, acknowledging the unpredictability of injuries and the need for flexibility as the competition approaches.
